Mobile phones to go, go Moto! Indeed!
Not to be outdone by the likes of other gadgets companies that hve gone the kiosk route, Motorola now plans to sell cell phones and accessories in vending machines.
Motorola has begun selling phones and accessories through "Instantmoto" vending machines at such well-trafficked locations as airports and department stores, including San Francisco International Airport and Macy's on State Street in Chicago. The first stage of the roll-out will be completed by November.
According to sources like the Associated Press, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Chicago Tribune, the machines will stock nearly 12 phones and 18 accessories.
While this is very interesting and makes it even easier to increase mobility, who will be the first company to put a cell phone in a cereal box?

JAJAH now enables most mobile phones to make free global calls. JAJAH will announce on Tuesday their new service which enables consumers to make free or low-cost long distance international calls directly from their cell phone. This extends
their previous "free calling", to the mobile phone realm, which was previously only available via a computer browser.
The JAJAH Mobile Suite will allow virtually any mobile phone to make JAJAH calls. JAJAH is starting with Symbian and Java-based J2ME phones and soon will enable text messaging and smart-phone/browser solutions. Between all of these methods, just about any cell phone can use JAJAH. Even
Blackberries now work with JAJAH, as I recently reported.
JAJAH mobile is seamlessly integrated into the JAJAH desktop solution allowing consumers to manage their account directly on the JAJAH web site. To use the service, you first need a JAJAH account. To take advantage of JAJAH’s Free Global Calling Plan, it only applies when both call participants are registered JAJAH users. In countries where free phone calls are not available, or if someone is calling a non-JAJAH member, calls are then subject to JAJAH's rates, usually less than 3 cents a minute.
According to Jajah's Frederik Hermann, here's how it works. "In short, you go to the Jajah site, look to see if your phone is currently supported - the first phones supported are Symbian based, like
Nokia N70 and Java based such as the Nokia 6630 (J2ME). We are adding phones everyday and the software is done for many phones. If your phone is supported, you pull down a small plugin. Your phone will then know that when you dial an international number, it will send the call through the Jajah "network" (you can change theses preferences if you wish and make only some calls, or all calls, go through Jajah). Regardless, you just dial the number and Jajah makes the call. Thats it. The back end is all integrated with the Jajah system (billing, call history etc.). Basically its the same price structure as with a regular Jajah call - free to other Jajah users etc."
Update: 9:32am TuesdayIt's now official -
check out the announcement

Why is this man smiling, you ask?
Don't suppose it's in response to all of the recent chatter about Apple's September 12 special meeting/announcement and, separately, Apple's cell phone plans.
Great article on AppleInsider lays out the intrigue about product development of this mysterious mobile phone.
(Or is there really a product being developed?)
What do you think Steve Jobs has up his sleeve?
(And do you think he dreams in color or just black and white -- or is it white and black?)

Here's another gadget that I wished I had inverted -- it's simply called Cordgo, and in a way that is what is does (or enables you to do).
A one hand-operated cord adjustment and storage accessory, Cordgo's durable, lightweight design fits in the palm of your hand to deliver cord control.
No more dangling iPod cords, cell phone cords, MP3 player cords; in fact, any cord up to 3mm in diameter.
Cordgo was designed to perform as an integral component between cord and digital device so it adjusts the cord automatically to "the perfect length."
It eliminates the tangling and physical interference of a cord and can be clipped to your belt, arm band, key chain, car visor, bag or slipped it in your pocket.
MSRP: $9.95 (and now with a "buy one, get one free" offer, plus free decals that can be affixed to the face of the cover)

According to recent poll published in the Los Angeles Times, young people aren't that crazy about mobile TV.
(Do you think maybe the screen size has something to do with it?)
The poll indicates that this important group may not be embracing mobile video at the rate that many in the entertainment industry assume.
Just about 50% of young adults and 40% of teenagers say they have no interest in watching TV on computers, cell phones or iPods.
Multitasking has to stop at some time!

Mobile phone purchasers face a myriad of decisions about their choice of phone and service provider.
We are all unfortunately spent too much time weighing all of the many factors before we decided.
(It wasn't easy, but do you start with the phone or the service provider?)
Now, to help us all in the future when we face this decision again, can you find the least important factor in choosing a service provider?
Is it:
- Reliable coverage
- Reasonably priced handsets
- Fair-priced monthly service
- Availability of high-quality entertainment
The phone lines are open ...

What do you think?
They have been slugging it out for years to remain the king of the global mobile phone market, a titanic seesaw battle of global brands that has seen both Nokia and Motorola rise to the top, fall back and then battle back.
Who do you think will be the long-term winner?
(Does Nokia's 9300, pictured above, really make a difference?)

What with MP3 players, iPods, CD players, cell phones and all kinds of other gadgets, it seems like just about everybody is wearing earphones these days!
It may seem like a weird analogy, but the same adage about treating your feet to the best goes the same (at least for me) with earphones (or headphones as they used to be called).
With that in mind, it's hard to beat Shure's i3c Integrated Sound Isolating Earphones + Mobile Headset (some name!).
What makes these earphones work so well is Shure's long heritage in audio, especially in the very demanding professional audio industry. Wideband Microdriver Technology provides an extended frequency soundstage, and the VoicePort microphone filters out background noise and minimizes wind, ensuring every call is loud and clear.
Designed for on-the-go audio purists, the i3c gives me the convenience of either listening to music or answering a call on my mobile phone (via the bug-like device below). Standard versions work with portable audio players and most cell phones. The dual connector versions allows me to plug into both a portable audio player and a mobile phone, while a single connector version is available for use with the Treo 650 and 700W.

Let's get into the technology a bit.
The i3c's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables me to listen comfortably at lower volumes, even in loud environments. Unlike bulky headphones that utilize active noise cancellation technology, no audio artifacts are introduced to affect my listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries.
Outside noise is reduced by 30-37 dB, so no matter how noisy it gets on the train or at the airport, I can always hear my music or your conversation.
The i3c's speakers are constructed with the same studio-grade components as Shure's award-winning E Series Earphones, delivering an extended frequency range that allows me to hear all of the music, while the VoicePort Inline Microphone is acoustically tuned to filter out background noise and minimize wind noise-ensuring so that callers hear me clearly even in the noisiest situations.
MSRP: $209.00

Nokia is scheduled to open its first U.S. flagship store on Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” tomorrow.
The store, which is only the second in the world (the first was in Moscow), will feature the mobile company’s standard equipment as well as Vertu Lounge, a luxury line that features devices embedded with sapphire crystals and gold.
Officials say the company-owned-and-operated store will also feature several interactive displays that guide consumers on how to operate various products.
In hopes of attracting experienced shoppers, Nokia has also unveiled plans to open a flagship store along New York’s Fifth Avenue in the fall of 2006.

Now get ready for this!
The American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, the oldest movie company in America (established in 1895), has signed a distribution deal with Strom Magellan to release “Mutoscopes” worldwide.
In case you didn't know (and I bet you didnt'), "Mutoscopes" are short films originally produced 100 years ago by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company. Now, the oldest is the newest popular form of wireless entertainment.
The initial lineup includes films that are far from anyone's first-run list. Originally produced by the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company in the early 1900s, the "Mutoscopes" were entertaining two- to three-minute films exhibited in "Mutoscope" peep-hole arcade machines, where you put a nickel in, turned the crank, looked through the viewer and watched a short film. Today, the viewer is a cell phone or other wireless device.
Also (and why not?) new “Mutoscope” films are in production -- comedies, drama and action.

As a family of four, we all have our favorite gadgets that we seem to always have with us.
Here's what the family had with them for Memorial Day (parade included):

- Son -- PlayStation Portable (PSP)

Remember when getting a wrist watch was a big deal -- and an indispensible gadget?
Well, those days may be gone as teens (and others) use cell phones and PDAs more and more to check on the time of day. Would the coolness factor bring watches back into play? What do you think?

Shakespearen apologies aside, what if the cell phone was called something else besides a cell phone?
(We call our category here "Mobile Phones," for instance -- as I am sure all of you are well aware.)
Well, that's the $1 million question that an article in BusinessWeek raises.
And if the ubiquitous gadget did have the oppotunity to dial-in another name, what do you think it would be?
Now that's where the fun starts ...
