The Asterisk development team is very pleased to announce that we have released the first 1.4 beta packages of all four of our projects!
The beta versions are:
Asterisk - 1.4.0-beta2 (beta1 was not released to the public)
Asterisk-Addons - 1.4.0-beta1
Zaptel - 1.4.0-beta1
libpri - 1.4.0-beta1
All of these releases include substantial new functionality and performance improvements. The documentation detailing these changes is still in process, so future beta releases will contain more complete lists of the new features. There are a few functionality changes still not yet complete for Asterisk, but we expect to have them finalized in the next few days and merged into the beta release shortly.
In the specific case of Asterisk, there were quite a few changes made in this release that are not backwards compatible with prior releases. Users are encouraged to read the UPGRADE.txt file very closely before starting to build, install and test this release, so that they will be aware of changes they may need to make on their systems to accommodate it.
We encourage everyone to try out these releases on NON-PRODUCTION systems and report their findings on the mailing lists and the issue tracker; we'd like to move through this beta process as quickly as possible and getting feedback is the fastest way for us to accomplish that.
As always, the releases are on our FTP servers, although there are no patch versions available since this is the first release from the 1.4 branches. The releases have been signed by nearly every member of the Digium development crew, for your GnuPG verification pleasure :-)
Thanks for supporting Asterisk, Zaptel and our other projects!

I have just uploaded Solaris/SPARC G.729 codecs and register tools to our FTP site; they are located with the other non-Linux codecs in the 'unsupported' directory of the g729 subdirectory. There are versions for both Asterisk 1.2 and Asterisk 1.4 in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors; we will be updating the other 'unsupported' codecs and also producing Solaris/X86 versions some time in the next couple of weeks. Note that these codecs and register tools were built on Solaris 10 and will likely only work on recent Solaris releases.
Enjoy!

The Asterisk Development Team is pleased to announce new releases of Asterisk and Zaptel! Asterisk 1.2.12 includes a number of bug fixes, including fixes for two regressions that occurred in the 1.2.11 release. Specifically, the AGI 'GET VARIABLE' command has now gone back to its previous behavior, and CDR records now reflect the CallerID number instead of ANI in the situations that this was the case in earlier 1.2 releases.
Zaptel 1.2.9 include a small number of bug fixes, an update to the embedded Octasic API for the VPMOCT echo canceller modules, and reverts to the use of hardware DTMF detection on VPM400M modules (as it was in pre-1.2.8 releases).
As always, the release files are available on the Digium FTP servers at http://ftp.digium.com, in both tarball and patch file form. All of the release files have been signed with our GPG keys and the signature files are available in the same directories as the release files.
Thanks for using and supporting Asterisk!

Zaptel 1.2.8 include a small number of bug fixes, an update to properly licensed header files for the included Octasic API kit and a Makefile target to make it easier for users to build the mISDN kernel and userspace drivers for the B410P.
As always, the release files are available on the Digium FTP servers at http://ftp.digium.com, in both tarball and patch file form. All of the release files have been signed with our GPG keys and the signature files are available in the same directories as the release files.

The Asterisk development team is pleased to announce new releases of Asterisk and Zaptel: Asterisk 1.2.10 and Zaptel 1.2.7.
These releases incorporate a number of bug fixes, and the Asterisk release contains a new option to help avoid a potential denial of service vulnerability in the IAX2 channel driver. The Zaptel release
also adds support for the TE407P and TE412P quad T1/E1 interface cards.
The release files are available in the usual place (ftp.digium.com), as both tarballs and patch files relative to the last release. In addition, both the tarballs and the patch files have been signed using GPG keys of the release maintainers, so that you can ensure their authenticity.
Thanks for supporting Asterisk and Zaptel!

The Asterisk Development team has released another beta test release of Asterisk 1.4, 1.4.0-beta3.
This release also contains a number of bug fixes, and some improvements to the chan_sip channel driver (for SIP devices) to mitigate the impacts of a certain class of denial-of-service attacks that have recently been published.
Note that Asterisk 1.4 is not vulnerable to the chan_skinny exploit that resulted in updated releases of Asterisk 1.0 and Asterisk 1.2.
The team has also released Zaptel 1.4.0-beta2 and Asterisk-Addons 1.4.0-beta2; these releases contain only bug fixes and minor improvements.
As always, the release files are available on the Digium FTP servers at ftp://ftp.digium.com, in both tarball and patch file form. All of the release files have been signed with our GPG keys and the signature files are available in the same directories as the release files.

The Asterisk Development team has released an update to Asterisk 1.2, Asterisk 1.2.13.
This release contains a fix for a security vulnerability recently found in the chan_skinny channel driver (for Cisco SCCP phones). This vulnerability would enable an attacker to remotely execute code as the
system user running Asterisk (frequently 'root'). The exploit does not require that the skinny.conf contain any valid phone entries, only that chan_skinny is loaded and operational.
This release also contains a number of bug fixes, and some improvements to the chan_sip channel driver (for SIP devices) to mitigate the impacts of a certain class of denial-of-service attacks that have recently been published.
All Asterisk 1.2 users are urged to update to this release if they use the chan_skinny channel driver, or to stop loading it if it is not needed ('noload=>chan_skinny.so' in modules.conf will cause this behavior).
The team has also released Zaptel 1.2.10, Asterisk-Addons 1.2.5 and libpri 1.2.5; these releases contain only bug fixes and minor improvements.
As always, the release files are available on the Digium FTP servers at ftp://ftp.digium.com, in both tarball and patch file form. All of the release files have been signed with our GPG keys and the signature files are available in the same directories as the release files.

- a change to no longer include a header file that does not exist on
Linux kernel 2.6.18 (and caused a problem on Fedora Core 6)

The Asterisk Development Team is pleased to announce the first release in the Asterisk 1.4 series,
Asterisk 1.4.0!
As previously announced, this release contains a large number of new features over the 1.2 series; see the CHANGES file in the distribution for the complete list. Before installing this release, be sure to read the UPGRADE.txt file as well, to be aware of changes that were made that will require you to change configuration files or dialplan entries.
Along with Asterisk, Asterisk-Addons, Zaptel and libpri were also released as 1.4.0 versions.
As usual, the release files are available on the
ftp.digium.com servers via FTP and HTTP, and have been signed with GPG keys to ensure their authenticity.
The team thanks you for your support of Asterisk; more than half of the new functionality in this release was developed by community members!
